Writers all have different reasons and purposes on why they write. In Joan Didion’s article, Why I Write, she explains why she writes and why she likes the title. It’s like listen to me, the attention and focus is on her. She writes entirely to find out what she’s thinking, what she’s looking at, what she sees and what it means. What she wants and what she fears.
To relate to Joan, I also have many different reasons why I write, when I write. One reason is like a therapy for me. When I’m angry or upset. Instead of saying those mean and hurtful things to whomever I may be upset with, I write my anger down. After I write my feelings and anger down, I always feel more calm and better. Another reason why I write is for school. As in homework or essays. It’s never any fun but I always learn and grow from every writing. I also write when I hear a song I like. I end up sitting there listening to the song and writing the lyrics out. Sometimes I even change some of the lyrics from a guy’s perspective to a women’s perspective. I write on social media how my day is going or if something happened. I write when I need to caption a photo I take. I write when I’m in a chat with someone and want to know how they are doing or what’s going on in their lives. I write when I’m bored sometimes and just need something to do. I write out some very interesting quotes sometime, when I find them to be very helpful or I can relate to. I know my reasons sound a little silly but that’s why I write.
